Circularity up. Waste down.

  • Broad INEOS Styrolution ECO product portfolio
  • Significantly lower CO2 footprint with ECO solutions based on mechanical recycling or bio-attributed feedstock

INEOS Styrolution, the global leader in styrenics, will present its new range of sustainable styrenics solutions at K 2022. Of particular interest for household and electronics application are new sustainable drop-in solutions substituting virgin materials.

High colour consistency, exceptional transparency, high dimensional stability or an excellent surface appearance are just a few convincing arguments that speak for styrenics to be the material of choice for a broad range of home appliances and electrical/electronic appliances. Styrenics are used in home solutions including kitchen, laundry room, personal hygiene and general household applications. Styrenics are also used for applications that connect the world, including mobile applications, TV and monitor, office equipment and general electronic applications.

INEOS Styrolution offers a broad range of materials for these markets. Typical materials belonging to this innovative portfolio are Styrolution® PS, a strong ABS portfolio (Terluran®, Novodur®, Novodur® HH), Luran® (SAN), NAS® (SMMA) and Luran® S (ASA).

Artur Sokolowski Sales Director Household and Electronics EMEA, says: “We have a strong product portfolio for our customers in the household and electronics industries. And the services we offer to our customers go way beyond the products. To name just a few, we offer a long-term global supply security, dedicated quality and global technical teams, processing support on-site, enhanced quality control processes and global regulatory and compliance support.”

Sustainable styrenics solutions

A growing number of products is available now also as sustainable ECO version offering a significantly lower ecological footprint.

INEOS Styrolution polystyrene is available as Styrolution® PS ECO, a mechanically recycled polystyrene which even offers food grade quality.

Terluran® ECO was INEOS Styrolution’s first mechanically recycled product. Grades with up to 70% recycled content were brought to market at the previous K Show in 2019, specifically addressing the household and electronics industries at the time. Since, the portfolio of recycled ABS grades has been expanded significantly, also for the specialties Novodur® and Novodur® HH product families. Solutions today include mechanically recycled products as well as mass-balance based bio-attributed products with significant carbon footprint reductions (e.g. up to 68% for Novodur ECO P2H-AT B50).

Luran®, an SAN copolymer that is typically used because of its well-balanced property profile (e.g. good transparency, excellent chemical resistance, high stiffness), is now also available as Luran® ECO, a drop-in solution based on a mass balance process certified by ISCC PLUS. The carbon footprint reduction for the new product varies between 77% and 99%, depending on the amount of renewable feedstock.

NAS® ECO is giving glass like transparency. It is certified by ISCC PLUS offering an up to 93% reduced carbon footprint. NAS is an SMMA copolymer for demanding applications requiring excellent transparency. The optical properties of NAS are on a similar level as PMMA, while NAS has a density and processing advantage compared to acrylic solutions.

Luran® ECO is a transparent SAN material used e.g. for tableware items and storage devices. The carbon footprint of Luran ECO is 93% lower compared to the fossil-based Luran version.

New is also Luran® S ECO, INEOS Styrolution’s first sustainable ASA solution, with 50% bio-attributed content and up to 58% lower carbon footprint, depending on the selected Luran S grade. The bio-attribution process is again certified by ISCC PLUS.

Food contact statements are available for all ECO products where the fossil reference material also complies with food contact standards.
