Agilyx Corporation and INEOS Styrolution sign joint development agreement for polystyrene recycling in the USA

Agilyx Corporation and INEOS Styrolution have signed a joint development agreement to develop a recycling process for polystyrene based on “chemical recycling” in the USA. This collaboration is aimed at achieving a circular economy, where polystyrene waste is recycled into virgin, high-quality styrenic polymers, thereby reducing plastic waste and allowing for re-use of this valuable material.
This “chemical recycling” technology is based on depolymerization of post-consumer polystyrene waste, which is expected to result in new virgin, high-quality polystyrene ultimately for food-related uses.

Agilyx is an environmental technology and development company located in Tigard, Oregon that extracts value from difficult-to-recycle mixed waste plastic streams. The Company has developed the first system capable of recycling polystyrene (foam cups, packaging materials, and Styrofoam) into styrene monomer, which is then used to remake polystyrene (“PS”). The company has also commercialized a technology that converts mixed plastics to high quality Vacuum Gas Oil (VGO) crude. Agilyx is working with waste service providers, municipalities, refiners, and private and public enterprises to develop closed-loop industrial solutions for mixed waste plastics.
